Candidate filing open for two Georgetown council seats

GEORGETOWN – Candidate filing is now open for the Town of Georgetown’s 2015 municipal election this May.

Two town council seats – Ward 1 and Ward 2 – are up for vote in the May 9 election.

Those seats are presently held by Steve Hartstein and Sue Barlow.

Eligible candidates must be 21 years of age or older, a U.S. citizen and resident of Delaware and Georgetown, residing in that respective ward up for election.

Town council terms are for two years.

Any qualified candidate interested in filing for these offices may do so at the Town Hall.

Filing deadline is Friday, April 17 at 5 p.m.

The May 9 election at is from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Town Hall on The Circle.

Voter registration deadline for the 2015 election is Friday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m.

To vote, residents must be registered on the “Books of Registered Voters” of the Town of Georgetown. This town registry is separate from the one for the state of Delaware.

Voters must be 18 or older on the date of the election.

Any registered voter of the Town of Georgetown wishing to vote by absentee voting may do so by obtaining an “Affidavit for Absentee Voting” at the Town Hall. Absentee ballots will be available Monday, April 20.

Absentee ballots can either be picked up at Town Hall or mailed. The deadline for voting by absentee ballot in person is Friday, May 8 at 12 p.m.
