Code Purple Sussex County continues

SUSSEX COUNTY – With sub-freezing temperatures in the immediate forecast, Code Purple Sussex County continues for tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 5, and has been extended through Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Anyone experiencing homelessness in the county is encouraged to call 302-519-0024 for active shelter information.

Pathways Shelter Stein Highway Church of God

425 W. Stein Hwy, Seaford.

Check-in 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Check-out 7:45 a.m.

Men remain at Stein Highway, all women and children are transported to Gateway Fellowship at 8:30p.m.

Georgetown Presbyterian

Call Pastor Mike at 302-344-1912 or leave a message at the church 302-856-6842. This sanctuary is open for extreme weather and not held a certain temperature. Must call ahead; limited availability. This is first come first serve. If the first person seeking shelter is male, that night it is a men’s shelter that night; if women, the shelter is a women’s shelter that evening.

Milford Community Center 

Milford, Sanctuary for women and children only. This shelter and can be contacted by either Sussex County Hotline or Kent County Hotline or call the center at 302-725-0770.


NOTE: Eastern is unique as they operate cold weather month’s shelter. Sanctuaries/shelters will open and remain open until spring regardless of the temperature.

Day Center- Cold Weather

Rehoboth Community Resource Center (CRC) open is open for warmth for the homeless during the day 302-227-1340. CRC offers a cold weather day center with extended hours in winter months. For cold weather day center the max capacity of occupants is 22 and with two staff members and 20 guests.

Immanuel Shelter – Cold Weather

Rehoboth 1-888-634-9992, Open seven Days from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. Services men and women. Immanuel uses both Conley’s Chapel and Faith UMC Fellowship for their code purple and toggle back and forth between the churches for Code purple. Call to verify location.

Soul Ministry

Bethany Beach 302-632-4289. Sanctuary operates daily for men and women with support from Christian Community of Churches (CCC- formerly South East Ministirium).  Men only.  This cold weather emergency sanctuary will keep same men all winter as long as they are homeless and working toward housing. The Christian Community of Churches is working alongside these men for transformation under the direction of S.O.U.L Ministries. Eric and Cherith Snyder are the directors
