Religious and community leaders tackle racism

LEWES — The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice is sponsoring a workshop for religious and community leaders on Wednesday June 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Trinity Faith Christian Center, 5516 New Road in Lewes.

The event will kick off a movement to build consensus on ways to address racism in the criminal justice system. Michelle Alexander’s book, “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness,” will be introduced, and attendees will be encouraged to set up racially diverse study groups based on the book in their respective communities.

Co-facilitators are Rev. Dr. Lawrence Livingston and Rev. Paula Maiorano, co-founders of the Delaware Coalition to Dismantle the New Jim Crow.

Concord United Methodist Church holds VBS

SEAFORD — Cave Quest VBS, a summer children’s event, will be held at Concord United Methodist Church from June 20-24.  At Cave Quest, kids explore what it means to follow Jesus through dark times. Kids participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, dig into treats, and experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures.  Plus, kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around them.

Cave Quest is for kids from Pre-K (age 4) through seventh grade, and will run Monday through Friday from 6-8:30 p.m. each day.  Concord UM Church is located at 25322 Church Rd. (off Concord Rd. east of Seaford).  For more information, call Pastor Lindsay Wessell at 423- 3911.


Father’s Day dinner concert

SEAFORD — Sussex Community Gospel Mass Choir will perform at the Father’s Day Dinner Concert at 4 p.m. June 19 at Church of God and Saints of Christ, 10016 Concord Road, Seaford.

The menu includes barbeque ribs, fried and baked chicken, honey baked ham, sides, beverages and desserts.

Donations: adults $25, school-age children $12.50.

150th church anniversary celebration

CONCORD — Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Church of Concord will host a celebration in honor of their 150th church anniversary with Reverend Idola Batson, pastor. The Gold and Black Tie Gala will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 12 at the Heritage Shore Country Club in Bridgeville.

The gala includes music by gospel jazz artist Tony Smith and special guest Dr. Harry L. Williams, DSU president.

Tickets are $50 – includes dinner and dancing.

Unity of Rehoboth Beach

MILTON — Join Unity of Rehoboth Beach at their Sunday Celebration Service at 10 a.m. at the Olive Branch Building on Coastal Highway, 14904 Coastal Highway in Milton.

On Sunday, June 12, Unity of Rehoboth Beach welcomes Ginny Green who will give a talk on the Quakers. There are some similarities between the Society of Friends and Unity.

Long Neck UMC schedule

LONG NECK — Long Neck United Methodist Church, located on 32051 Long Neck Road in Long Neck announces its services.

ANGOLA — Conley’s UM Church announces its service schedule.

Regular worship: 6:30 p.m. on Saturday nights and 8:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sundays.

Union UM Church service

BRIDGEVILLE — Union United Methodist Church, located at 2 N. Laws Street in Bridgeville, announces its winter service schedule.

LAUREL — Christian singers are wanted for Open Mic Christian Night. Share your vocal/musical/story talents with folks who love this event. Open Mic Night is the first and third Friday of each month from 7-9 p.m.

On Sunday, June 12 — The Heart of Our Spiritual Home with Rev. Paula Maiorano, Interim Minister. This Sunday celebration will recognize volunteers.
