Millsboro Chick-fil-A: Hiring under way for spring opening

MILLSBORO – In preparation for a spring 2018 opening, employee hiring is under way for the new Chick-fil-A in Millsboro.

Chick-fil-A, an American fast-food restaurant chain specializing in chicken sandwiches, has named Tim Sweetman franchise owner of the chain’s Peninsula Crossing restaurant as the hiring of upwards of 100 new team members begins.

Construction work continues on the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Peninsula Crossing in Millsboro. A spring 2018 opening is planned.

Millsboro’s first Chick-fil-A is under construction at 30141 Commerce Drive.

Sandwiched between Burger King and McDonalds along southbound US 113, the new restaurant is projected to open this spring.

The new 5,000-square-foot location on Commerce Drive will include a heritage restaurant interior design that showcases handmade, authentic materials for a vintage-inspired interior, including a large gathering table made from reclaimed wood, subway tiles and a light fixture made from recycled Coca-Cola bottles.

Drive-thru service will feature two ordering lanes merging into a single lane for pickup. The restaurant, with indoor seating for 107 and additional patio seating for 12, will include a two-story play area for children.

Hiring will include full-time and part-time positions in all areas of the restaurant, including leadership development, hospitality, catering, training and marketing.

The Millsboro restaurant will be the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in inland Sussex County. A restaurant is located on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach. A Chick-fil-A opened in Milford several years ago.

Founded in 1946, Chick-fil-A has more than 2,000 restaurants in the United States. Because of the Southern Baptist beliefs of its founder, S. Truett Cathy, Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed Sundays as well as Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Chick-fil-A benefits include scholarships for continuing education. Chick-fil-A team members are eligible for the chain’s initiative, Remarkable Futures, which provides $4.9 million in annual scholarships. Ranging from $2,500 to $25,000, the scholarships are based on leadership, community involvement and academic achievement, according to Cindy Chapman, spokeswoman for CP Communications.

Over the years, Chick-fil-A, which employs more than 75,000 people through corporate positions and franchised locations, has provided almost $38 million to help pay for college.
