Frankford company maintains rank among fastest-growing private companies

FRANKFORD – It’s a three-peat for Chesapeake Plumbing and Heating, Inc.

For the third straight year, Inc. magazine has placed the Frankford-based business on its annual Inc. 5000 list, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.

The 2017 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2013 to 2016. During this time, Chesapeake saw a three-year sales growth of 178 percent.

The list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment— its independent small and mid-sized businesses.

Companies such as Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees of the Inc. 5000.

Locally, 16 Delaware companies qualified for inclusion on the 2017 Inc. 5000 list. Of those, Chesapeake ranked eighth statewide and first for Sussex County.

In the previous two years, Chesapeake was recognized as the sixth fastest-growing Delaware company. According to the publishers, only 20 percent of companies named to the list qualify three times.

Travis Martin is owner of Chesapeake Plumbing & Heating, Inc., a company based in Frankford that has again made Inc. magazine’s list of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by Inc. magazine once again, said Travis Martin, the company’s owner. “Chesapeake’s continued success is built upon the hard work and professionalism of our employees. Their commitment to our company’s core values, which drives customer service, is second to none.”

Chesapeake Plumbing and Heating has been serving residential and commercial customers in Delaware and Maryland since 2003. Locally owned and operated, Chesapeake specializes in repair and new construction services for plumbing, heating, cooling and fire sprinkler systems. It also has a division that provides utility construction and trenching.

The 2017 Inc. 5000 is the most competitive crop in the list’s history. The Inc. 5000’s aggregate revenue is $206 billion, and the companies on the list collectively generated 619,500 jobs over the past three years. Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found at

“The Inc. 5000 is the most persuasive evidence I know that the American Dream is still alive,” says Inc. President and Editor-In-Chief Eric Schurenberg. “The founders and CEOs of the Inc. 5000 tell us they think determination, risk taking, and vision were the keys to their success, and I believe them.”

To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2013. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31, 2016.
