Beware: Phone scam alert in Georgetown area

GEORGETOWN – The Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce Friday announced it had been notified of a scam being perpetrated in the Georgetown area via telephone.

According to information from the Greater Georgetown Chamber, scammers call and say you have an overdue electric bill and warn that unless an immediate cash payment is made to a certain address your electric service will be shut off.

This is a scam and no payment should be made, the Chamber emphasizes.

The Georgetown Police Department was notified of this phone scam.
