Soggy forecast: Friday’s Relay For Life of East Sussex will be staged indoors

LEWES – A potentially wet forecast Friday will not wash out any festivities planned for the 2016 Relay for Life of East Sussex.

The entire show will go on as planned – this Friday, from 6 p.m. to midnight – in the Beacon Middle School in Lewes.

Organizers decided Wednesday to stage the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser indoors, given the probability of stormy weather.

The Weather Channel’s Friday forecast for the Lewes area calls for thunderstorms and a 90-percent of precipitation.

“Nothing is being cancelled; we’re just making plans now to move everything indoors because of the forecast for Friday,” said Brian Baull, Relay For Life of East Sussex media chair.

Opening ceremonies are slated to begin at 6 p.m.

Friday evening’s schedule also features the survivors’ reception, with the luminaria ceremony scheduled for around 8:15 p.m.

There will be live music and numerous other activities.
