‘Mystery Fall Play’ headlines 2018-19 Take Two Drama Club schedule

GEORGETOWN – The Take Two Drama Club of Sussex Central High School had a banner year in 2017-18.

Emily Gutierrez

Rising junior Emily Gutierrez represented Sussex Central as an actress at Delaware’s prestigious Governor’s School in July while graduating seniors James Mangin and Tanaye Purnell were honored by the Delaware Young Playwrights Festival and Delaware’s Poetry Out Loud competition, respectively.

SCHS and the Take Two Drama Club now have the exciting opportunity to be the first high school theatre program in Delaware to present a groundbreaking international hit show by special arrangement with the licensing agency holding the rights to the play.

“The show is so hot that it’s still in circulation with professional national and international touring companies,” said Take Two advisor and SCHS drama teacher David Warick. “As part of our agreement letting us do the show, Take Two is contractually not allowed to mention the play by name in the press.”

Working with these extraordinary stipulations has been a challenge for the club, but Mr. Warick has a solution.

“We will refer to it in the press as our Fall Mystery Play,” he said. “I invite people to ask me about it at david.warick@irsd.k12.de.us. That way, people interested in finding out what this amazing show is called can learn about it in detail in person from me.”

The “mystery” play will be presented at the Centre for Visual and Performing Arts at SCHS on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Ticket prices are $10 for general admission; $7 for seniors, students and military; and $7 at a special two-for-one rate for all middle school students.  No one will be turned away for inability to pay, but all donations and proceeds support future Take Two/SCHS drama productions.

Besides the special “mystery” show, SCHS is also presenting the hilariously edgy musical “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” (by special permission with MTI) as its Spring Musical on Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Other offerings include Take Two’s annual Black History Month Celebration, which will be held on a date to be announced in February. Take Two will also host its well-known Comedy Club on Wednesday, May 15.

The Take Two Drama Club is an independent non-profit drama booster organization (501c3 status pending) which supports the production of plays and musicals for the students of Sussex Central High School and the surrounding communities.

All ticket proceeds go directly back into the production of future shows and to supporting the students of Sussex Central in studying and creating theatre. Follow the club at Take Two Drama Club of Sussex Central HS on Facebook.
