Fourth of July celebrations, events in Southern Delaware

SUSSEX COUNTY – Independence Day celebrations in Southern Delaware; events are on Saturday, July 4, unless noted.

Bethany Beach – 32nd Annual Independence Day Celebration

Noon: Let Freedom Ring Parade (intersection of Pennsylvania and Garfield Parkway, traditional 2-mile route through the town.

2 p.m.: Horseshow-throwing contest, southwest corner of the Christian Church grounds.

7:30 p.m. The Vigilantes band performs popular dance music on the Bandstand.

Dusk:  Fireworks on the beach. Cost: Free

Dewey Beach- Fireworks

Dusk, fireworks on the bayside. Cost: Free

Georgetown – Reading of the Declaration of Independence

Noon, on The Circle (Georgetown Fire Hall if there is inclement weather).

Laurel – 4th of July Sweet Land of Liberty

4 p.m. Food Vendors and Fair, Central Avenue

5 p.m. Parade, Central Avenue

After the Parade: Mayor’s Cornhole Contest, Market Square Park

7 p.m. Little Miss Independence Pageant, Market Square Park

After the pageant: Concert featuring the band, Chain Break

Dusk: Fireworks

Millsboro- Happy Birthday America” Celebration/Children’s Parade.

10 a.m. – St. Mark’s Episcopal Church/Labyrinth (corner of State and Ellis Streets).

Cost: Free.

Lewes – Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Various Venues in Lewes, games and fun for families

Cost: Free

Milton – Hometown July 4

10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Milton Memorial Park, Chandler Street.

A highlight will be a bike decorating contest and bike parade sponsored by Irish Eyes Pub and Restaurant. Music and family entertainment throughout the day.

Cost: for food vendors, other activities free

Rehoboth – Main Street Fireworks Display

Sunday, July 5

9:15 p.m. at the Beach, Rehoboth Beach

Cost: Free
