Weight loss seminar: 10:30-11:30 a.m., Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. Hosted by Nanticoke Weight Loss and General Surgery. This free seminar is designed to provide education to individuals considering weight loss surgery to help them make informed decisions on whether surgery is an appropriate option. Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge public meeting: 7-8 p.m., 11978 Turkle Pond Road, Milton. Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge’s Recovery and Resiliency Project will soon be entering its final stages of completion.  Refuge personnel seeks to update the public on the project. THURSDAY • JULY 14

Milton Movies in the Park – “Hotel Transylvania”: 8:30 p.m., Milton Memorial Park, on the corner of Union and Chandler Streets, Milton. Hosted by the Milton Chamber of Commerce and Milton Public Library. Movie-goers are encouraged to enjoy dinner at local restaurants and to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the movie.

An Evening at the Hook Lecture Series – A Passion to Help Monarch Butterflies: 7–8 p.m., Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Milton. Join Mike McFarlin to learn about the monarch butterfly. He will discuss their migration, impacts humans have made on the monarch environment, how to raise them from eggs, and more. The Friends of Prime Hook will also have free milkweed, aster, and butterfly milkweed plants to hand out after the lecture. The lecture is free, open to the public. Seating is limited on a first-come, first-serve basis in the refuge’s auditorium.  Light refreshements will be available at 6:30 p.m.

Car Show: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Blackwater Village, 31275 Mohican Drive, Dagsboro. Trophies will be presented. Also featuring food, vendors and door prizes. The rain date is July 23. Six categories will be awarded trophies: classic, antique, modern, custom, pride and joy, people’s choice trophy. Registration at 9 a.m. for $20 per vehicle. ¡VIDA!™ Multicultural Breast Screening and Health Fair: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Dagsboro Church of God, 32224 Dupont Blvd., Dagsboro. The program is free and offers health screenings, information about healthy living, community programs, snacks, and additional resources to the public. SUNDAY • JULY 17

Simply Streisand: 6 p.m., The Milton Theatre. Join this multiple award-winning tribute artist for a night of music featuring Streisand songs. For tickets and information, call 684-3038 or visit miltontheatre.com.

Birding Field Trip: 8-11 a.m., Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Milton. Led by volunteer birding guides, beginner and experienced bird watchers will enjoy observing and learning about the bird species frequenting the refuge at this time of year.  Come prepared for the weather and expect to walk up to a mile.  Bring your binoculars, a field guide, and spotting scope (the leader will have spotting scopes also). Binoculars will be available to borrow. Meet at the refuge office. Trips are free, open to the public. Due to popular demand, pre-registration is now required by calling 684-8419. Groups are limited to 15 participants.

 

MONDAY • JULY 18

General cancer support group: 3:30 p.m., Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. This group is for people affected by cancer and their loved ones. Call 645-9150 for information or to register. All support groups offered by The Cancer Support Community are free of charge.

 

TUESDAY • JULY 19

Cash bingo: 7 p.m., Milton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 reserved in advance and $25 at the door. There will be door prizes, and concessions will be available for purchase.  You must be 18 years old to attend.  Call 684-8626 or 856-6420 to reserve your tickets.

Stroke support group: 1:30-3:30 p.m., Seaford Library & Cultural Center. Hosted by Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, this two-hour support group meeting consists of guest speakers and breakaway sessions in which caregivers and stroke survivors meet in groups to discuss concerns, providing support and networking. Refreshments will be provided. Pre-registration is not required for this free support group. For more information, call 629-6224.

11th annual Wine Tasting & Art Auction to benefit KINfolk: 5:30-8:30 p.m., The Cordrey Center, located in the East Coast Garden Center in Millsboro. The event features live and silent auctions and a selection of wines from Teller Wines. Dave Wilson will be the auctioneer for the evening. Admission is $30.
