DELMAR, DE – Roar of dragsters will give way to the smoky aroma of barbeque next weekend at U.S. 13 Dragway.

The Cathell family’s racing complex Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26 will host the first Heifer’Z, Hog’Z and Hen’Z Smokeout 500 Barbequefest, an event sanctioned by the world-renown Kansas City Barbeque Society.

The event will showcase professional and amateur barbequers from the region and surrounding states competing for over $10,000 in cash and prizes.

Augmenting the barbeque are activities, contests and entertainment, including bands and a carnival.

The Smokeout 500 also features crafts and business vendor areas and a beer garden.

Local bands will perform Friday and Saturday.

On Friday night, Mountaire Farms will host a wing contest. Competitors will cook up wings to determine the “best wing” in Delaware.

Spectators can purchase tickets to taste the wing creations.

Saturday, Mountaire returns with its popular Chickin Pickin competition.

Admission to the Heifer’Z, Hog’z and Hen’Z Smokeout 500 is $5 per person; children 12 under free.

Festival parking is also free.
